The usual reason people use a duvet is for warmth. Duvets are usually warmer than comforters and, in colder areas, can usually keep a person warm by themselves. Of course, duvets are not the only things one can use to keep warm. The duvet is usually preferred by people that can afford to buy luxury bedding ensembles and have no reason to worry about their bed linens getting soiled. Most duvets spend the day covered to prevent them getting dirty, but they are quite hard to clean should they become soiled. Most people that use them do so because they like the feel of a duvet compared to a typical blanket and bedspread combination. Comfort, after all, is exactly what luxury bedding is purchased for.
When in college, the dorm is our home and the bed is our haven. Besides spending a substantial amount of time in college, we tend to spend most of our time in our dorms, on our bed. It is the most safe and cozy place, where we sleep, eat, study, chat with our friends, etc. So, if it is such an inevitable part of our life in college, then why not give it a personal touch, and why not give that precious bed an identity which resembles ours, by choosing the right bedding?
Once you know which size to buy, the next thing to consider is the fabric that it is made of. Duvet covers are available in different materials, including cotton, velvet, satin, silk, jersey knit, flannel, and linen. If you wish to settle for nothing less than a soft fabric, then silk and satin are your best bets. While warm fabrics, such as flannel, are ideal for times when it gets really cold, they can be difficult to maintain. Unlike cotton and linen that can be safely washed in a washing machine, fabrics like velvet and flannel require dry cleaning. Another factor to consider is the durability of the fabric. If you're looking for a duvet cover for everyday use, then you should opt for durable fabrics such as cotton and linen. However, if it's only meant for use on special occasions, then you may choose luxurious satin, silk, or velvet.
